Spring Bulb Thinkin

It is time to start thinking about where you might want to plant some spring bulbs. The actual planting time isn’t for a couple weeks yet; but no sense leaving everything to the last minute.

Things that can be contemplated now are:
              *What areas get full sun?
*Is there room for multiple rows front to back? Don't want the tall ones hiding the
                         short ones.
*Do you want them all blooming at the same time? Or do you want some early, mid,
                         and late bloomers?
              *What about color?
*What about kinds? Tulips, Daffodils, Crocus, Hyacinth.
*Who's got them? How much are they? You could buy them now; or hide what you
want in one of the frig crispers in the appliance department and wait for them
to go on sale......"Did I say that?!"
*You can get the beds ready now. But don't put the bone meal down just yet: unless
you like dogs rooting around in your nicely prepped flower beds.

With the above done now, all that is left to do is plant them in a few weeks. To plant them now, while it is warm, may trigger some pre-mature growth, thus weakening the bulb. The only growth you want are the roots at the bottom of the bulb to go out into the soil; you don’t want to wake up the bulb, you want them to stay asleep until spring. Do you sleep well when it’s cool, or when it’s warm? So wait a couple more weeks and then plant.
